The French President says his country will pump more aid into the economy on top of a 26 billion euro ($36.4 billion) stimulus package. During a traditional end of year address to the nation on Wednesday, Nicolas Sarkozy said that France faced many problems in 2009 and went on to promise the introduction of more measures to help the economy if needed, Reuters reported.
In the televised speech, the president said, "We face major difficulties in 2009. We will be pragmatic, watchful, reactive and if we need to do more, we will do so, but maintaining our sang-froid."
The stimulus package was announced on December 4, and was primarily aimed at encouraging investment as well as helping some industries, namely carmakers and builders.
Sarkozy's solemn address took about 10 minutes in which he referred to the word "crisis" nine times.
